Pachira  Aquatica

Pachira Aquatica.Pachira  Aquatica (water chestnut)
- quite by chance we discovered this little used plant in a local nursery - the elegant plaited stem along with the bright green foliage shouted at us to be introduced into our contracts. We believe it is a native of Mexico and S. America where it grows in rich peat along river banks and can, in its natural state, grow to some 60' tall. Don't worry though, by plaiting the stems the growth is naturally slowed down...

This plant seems to grow best at 21
°C  (70 F) which is the average office or room temperature and can cope with low light but prefers good light (not direct sunlight though). They do like an occasional misting with warm rain water.
During the spring and summer water thoroughly but do not waterlog as this rots the roots. In the winter keep the soil just damp. Feeding is best done with slow release fertiliser, changed in the spring each year.
